4 steps to a coach blog that ranks and converts

How to Up-level Your Coaching Blog – 4 Powerful Tips

Whether your coach blog is new or not, this process is going to help you create a strong blog that is ready to rank the hell out of every post you publish.

But it’s not just about ranking – it’s also about serving your audience, positioning yourself as an authority in your industry and harvesting that traffic a.k.a turning that visitors into leads and wonga.

Coach Blog Step 1: Keyword research

The first step you can never skip is keyword research. Keywords are not just for search engines. They give you a clear insight into what people are typing into Google. Yes, these are real people and you and Google are both working on giving them what they’re looking for.

Either learn how to do keyword research yourself or hire someone to do it for you. But before you hire or start doing the keyword research make sure you know your ideal client. If you don’t know who you want to attract you don’t know what keywords to look for. The human element is often missing keyword research – and that’s a pity because that’s what makes it work.

Coach Blog Step 2: Blog structure a.k.a your categories

Once you’ve collected a good number of keywords that you feel your ideal client is typing into Google, you need to organise them in a logical way. Be careful though, it needs to be logical for people and also search engines.

If you’re just starting out, this is easy: pick your top 3 keywords with the most traffic and use them as your categories.

If you’ve been blogging for some time, this operation will require a blog audit, which tells you which keywords you’ve already used and how your current content is organised. Once you know all this you can use your keywords to re-organise your articles. The bad news is that this requires quite a bit of work, the good news is that the content will rank really quickly (after a temporary dip) if you do it right.

Coach Blog Step 3: Add call-to actions

If you already have a number of posts or articles on your website, make sure that you revisit them and add a call-to-action (CTA) to each. Not every blog post will require a CTA that sells an offer, some may simply connect the reader to the next article that will be of interest. However, make sure that every blog post has a call-to-action. Keeping people on your website is key. Getting them to return is the next important step.

Coach Blog Step 4: Keep them coming back like bees to honey

After spending all that time blogging and creating juicy content for your readers, you want to make sure that they stay. You don’t want them to just leave your site forever after Googling and finding your site. This is why you need ways of reaching them again and again so they can get to know you better.

One way of doing this is to add a pop-up on your website. A pop-up that comes up when people try to leave your site. This helps you get more people on your email list and if they liked your blog they’re likely to join to receive more of the same content. You can also add a bit of bait by giving a free downloadable pdf with some free teaching or coaching in it. You’ll need to experiment a bit. What matters is getting them on your email list.

content that attracts

You also want to be able to reach them again later when you’re running ads so make sure you install the Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest (etc) pixels on your website.

Blogging Strategy for Coaches

You will need a defined strategy too. Before you put all of the above in place, you’ll need to focus on your strategy. What do you want your website visitors to do? Is it book a call, is it to download your freebie? Is it to join your programme or challenge? Whatever it is you need to be clear before starting.

You also need to make sure that you create a content strategy so that the frequency, length, and topics attract the right people to your website. And the value of your posts makes them want to stay in your orbit or jump right onto a call with you.

If you’re looking to create a blogging strategy that is sure to work, let’s talk. About Stephanie:

Blog Coaching | Content StrategistStephanie is a Content marketing strategist and traffic growth coach. She helps clients generate more leads and clients through their blogs and websites. She started off her entrepreneurial journey as a teacher. She taught herself programming and spent many years teaching as a vocation and coding to make money.

In 2008, she co-created an agency with my husband. She always found web technologies exhilarating but managing a fast-growing agency and caring for a young child, were too much to handle all at once. She stared burnout in the face and decided to make some big changes. She returned to her love for sharing knowledge by coaching people 1:1.

Today, she helps clients turn traffic-less blogs into client superhighways by teaching them how to plan their content, research their keywords and write content that will rank and convert.
