Master Coaching Packages: Design, Pricing, Content and Launch
As a newly qualified coach setting up your coaching business, one of the first tasks is to create your first coaching package.
But before we dive in, let’s define what a coaching package is.
What is a coaching package?
Definition of a coaching package
A coaching package is a set number of sessions that a client books with a coach (it includes a set number of bulk hours), often attached to a defined goal, transformation, or outcome. A coaching package is often defined by a loose curriculum, which is then customized for each client. This is why the best and most effective coaching packages are 1:1 packages with a predefined number of sessions delivered over a defined duration to retain momentum. Most coaches also offer additional support, like email and/or voice note support in between sessions, assessments, worksheets and workbooks, templates, GPT coaching tools, and a client portal or community. Coaching packages refer to all of these sold as one offer.
Benefits for clients
A coaching package is very often the best option for clients. Coaches might make more money from group programs, but it’s quite logical that more 1:1 support results in better results for the client. Especially in the long run. 1:1 coaching packages allow the client to truly internalize the tools and mindset that create the shift they seek, therefore achieving more long-lasting results. 1:1 coaching packages are also a better fit for new coaches because they provide upfront cash flow, helping the coaching business grow in a more stable manner. They can also be sold through coach marketing strategies that are within the reach of new coaches—such as outreach, content, webinars, etc.
Although the session duration, frequency, coaching tools, and support may vary, a 1:1 coaching package is the most effective way for a client to reach their goal. Individual coaching packages allow clients to move at their own pace, have their coach’s undivided attention for an hour a week, and have plenty of personal support. This multiplies the chances for the client to reach their goal.
Some coaches also offer single sessions and groups—groups can work if the timing is right, not if you’re a new coach.
Should coaches offer single sessions?
However, it isn’t a good idea to offer single sessions because most leads will buy that session because it’s the first time they’re working with you and it presents a lower risk. Most people are naturally risk averse and will go for the smaller risk instead of the biggest payout. You end up stealing from yourself and your clients—you make less money, and clients do not achieve their desired outcome because one session can only get them some clarity but not enough support to make. Most of my clients, over the last decade, have consistently seen an immediate lift in their income when they stop selling single sessions. It is iften the firsst thing I get my clients to do—take that single session off their website. There are, of course, exceptions, where the single session is a great entry point to upsell the signature package, but this is rare, and in all honesty, I’ve only seen it work well for career coaches.
Should coaches offer group coaching programs instead of 1:1 coaching packages?
Some coaches run group programs; however, if you’re a new coach, you should avoid group coaching packages at first because:
1. It is merely impossible to get enough people to join a group
I think you’re starting to grow your audience from scratch. You will not have enough leads and will feel embarrassed (and disheartened) that you only have 2 or 3 people in what is supposed to be a group program.
2. Group coaching usually includes prerecorded content.
It is not likely this content will be very effective if you do not have at least 3 to 5 years’ coaching experience. To create recordings that cover all the variables involved in human nature and people’s needs, you need to work with at least 20 to 30 people. It takes firsthand experience to start picking up on the subtle patterns that make you an excellent coach. Patterns in the way they experience their issues, talk about them, and can resolve them consistently with support.
3. Managing the stumbling blocks your clients come across is more difficult in a group setting.
These groups involve a group of people attending the same call. Often, these groups hold hot seats lasting 5 to 15 minutes, during which they discuss their issues and receive feedback from the coach and peers. This time is very limited, and an inexperienced coach may find it hard to manage the group effectively and provide the right level of feedback. It is also unfair because it favors those clients who are verbal processors, and other people can be left very confused and lagging behind.
4. People’s goals vary, and a group cohort can steer people away from their original goal by exposing them to too many distractions.
In a group setting, coaching clients are constantly exposed to what others are doing—this is a big distraction and can result in people getting ‘inspired’ by others to follow a path that isn’t their own to follow. Things that are working for others (but not right for them at this point in their life journey) can become distractions and slow down progress. It’s convenient for coaches to promote this model, because it helps them scale, but it is ultimately not in the interest of the client. Group training courses work because it’s one curriculum, it’s short and to the point and everyone wants one small goal; coaching is more effective in a 1:1 setting because it brings about a bigger transformation.
Research shows that coaching goals are achieved better and faster in 1:1 coaching programs:
Here’s a summary of what the research says…
Research shows that 1:1 coaching accelerates personal and complex goal attainment, while group coaching is more effective for rapid skill development, shared accountability, and knowledge uptake. The fastest progress is seen in clients with high readiness to change, strong early rapport with their coach, openness to new experiences, and goals framed as learning opportunities rather than performance targets. Interestingly, individuals who begin with lower confidence often experience steeper early improvements. Progress depends less on the number of sessions and more on quality of fit, clarity, and feedback. Hybrid models that start with 1:1 coaching before adding group elements often provide the best balance of speed and scalability.
Therefore…
If you want clients to hit their goals fastest, start with 1:1 coaching, especially for personal growth or behavioral change. Group coaching helps build momentum and skills but usually isn’t the quickest path to individual goal completion. This, to me, makes group coaching less “authentic” and less client-centered. I always prefer to work with coaches who are not driven by money. I work with coaches who really want to make an impact and change the world, because that is the purpose I have built my business on and I ‘m proud of that. Of course we have to make money to survive and help our families thrive, but we can also make money and make a difference while still keeping the clients’ interests at heart.

So if group coaching cohorts are not for new coaches (or in the interest of the client), how can they be part of your coaching business?
Once you have more coaching experience, groups are a good thing to progress to. They can help you scale your coaching business. But do not drop 1:1 in favour of group coaching; 1:1 remains the best way to serve most coaching clients.
To book groups, though, you will need to move to webinar launches and grow your email list. Your marketing needs to support the move, and your following and audience size need to become a major focus. At this point in your business you should have enough knowledge of your ideal client. You should know what they want, what they love about your offers, and how to close them. You also need to know what it is about your program that helps do the heavy lifting when helping clients achieve results. For example: if you can clearly see that your accountability in between sessions
This move will spell the beginning of a new phase in your coaching business – the growth phase.
But before we shift gears and get too excited about growth, let’s make sure you get your basics right. And the basics require a strong 1:1 coaching package to start selling in order to build your business from scratch.
Designing the right coaching package will make or break your business. Your coaching packages, especially your main coaching package (aka signature coaching program), need to be aligned with your ideal client avatar’s struggles and with your marketing.
The STEP Coaching Package Design Framework™
Here’s a simple 4-step coach package design framework that I have used for over 10+ years in my coaching business with my clients (all types of coaches from around the world, but mostly from the US). The framework starts from the important step of understanding your ideal client intimately. I’ve based this framework on the templates and coaching tools I have used in my coaching program—it is a proven process.
The first thing I work on with my clients is a deeply researched ideal client persona.
Once we have defined every detail of the people we want to attract, we can get to work on the coaching offers.
The STEP Framework™ to create coaching packages….
- Step One: Define the Scope:
Get clear about the outcomes you provide, the struggles that you help overcome and the details of the niche you service. This will help you get super clear on the value you provide and how to frame it in your messaging.
- Step 2: Transformation Path
The second point on which, as the coach, you need to be absolutely clear is the transformation. The transformation can be created by outlining the milestones your clients need to reach and how they do this—meaning which modules and what behavioral shifts they need to experience in order to bring real change to their lives. For example, if your ideal client is a yo-yo dieter and you need to break them out of that cycle, the first milestone might be for them to understand that the biggest problem might be that they have a strict eating schedule instead of just eating when they’re hungry. The second milestone might be for them to understand intuitive eating and use some tools to reconnect with their body so they can feel the difference between taste-bud cravings and real hunger. The third step might be for them to understand nutrition so that they can cook highly nutritious food, which will kill their cravings and help them have stronger control of their body.
It also helps to take note of the various problems that slow them down or stop them from reaching a particular milestone. These are usually points where you need to offer more support, more coaching tools or both. For example when they start to listen to their bodies they might have more questions and need more accountability until they reach the next milestone which is cooking more nutritious food to support long term feasibility.
- Step 3: The features
The coaching offer features are those things that you can see and touch—the tangibles. For example: calls, worksheets and/or workbooks, coaching tools, community, bonuses, training videos etc. Anything you provide that can be seen or heard is a feature. Features are important when selling because people attach a lot of value to these.
- Step 4: The proof—your guarantees!
What guarantees can you offer in your coaching? Which are those things that everybody achieves within the timescales of your package? Can you provide testimonials, case studies or or other forms of proof?

Coaching Package Pricing
How to price coaching services
When it comes to setting your coaching fees, the biggest mistake you can make is just picking a number that “feels right.” Pricing your coaching packages requires a clear strategy, and the model you choose determines how clients see you and how sustainable your business will be.
Hourly rates might be fine when you’re starting out, but they cap your growth. Selling single sessions often leaves clients with quick wins but little transformation. What works much better is shifting toward packages and value-based pricing—structures that put the focus on the result you deliver, not the minutes on the clock.
The way I recommend you approach this is by starting with a beta price. That’s simply a temporary fee that feels comfortable enough to help you get your first few clients on board, gain testimonials, and build confidence. Once you’ve proven the value of your offer, you raise your prices. I did exactly this—doubling my rates after my first clients, and later creating bigger packages at higher price points. Surprisingly, it was the higher-priced programs that sold faster, because they matched the level of transformation my clients wanted.
When pricing coaching services, I like to play a game with my clients. We set incremental goals—like levels in a video game. For example, when I was working with Elaine (name shared with permission) we agreed she would start off at $99/hr which is low. However, she needed to land her first clients asap and experienced a lot of imposter syndrome when selling, so it was the best place to start. We then agreed that every time she sold 5 packages, she would add 25 dollars an hour.
This meant that she had time to:
1. Get used to the prices.
2. Get proof that people are willing to sell her prices
3. Get comfortable selling and explaining her coaching packages
4. Had already sold 6 packages and had cash flow, which meant she was less stressed to put her prices up (in case people stopped buying).
From there, it’s a process of refining. Keep researching what others in your niche are charging, experiment with package lengths, and offer flexible payment plans when needed. The key is to stop thinking about “time for money” and instead align your fees with the results and transformation you create. That’s when your pricing stops being a guessing game and becomes a growth strategy for your coaching business.
The Tiered Pricing Model
Once you’ve worked with a handful of clients and experienced the full journey you take clients on, you will be in a position to add more packages. Being able to offer 2 packages alongside your main package has 2 effects.
1. People can better understand the full transformation you can offer
2. They have a smaller option in case their budget can’t stretch as far as the package they need
3. There is a large package that ‘sells’ your middle tier package (thanks to price anchoring)
Your market, offer and competitors weigh in on this. To go deeper on pricing read this too How to Price Your Coaching Services
Psychology of pricing—use it to your advantage.
Another important piece of the puzzle to consider when you’re setting your coaching fees is the psychology of pricing. Numbers don’t just represent value; they communicate value. The way you present your prices can actually influence how clients perceive them.
For example, using a higher-priced offer as an anchor makes your mid-tier package feel more affordable. Anchoring a price means mentioning the ‘bigger’ price first to anchor it in their brain; subsequently, any smaller price will ‘feel’ cheaper/more affordable. If someone sees a $6,000 package next to a $3,000 packages, the $3,000 feels like a fantastic deal—even though on its own it might have seemed “expensive.” Anchoring gives context and makes your main offer more attractive.
There’s also charm pricing—those prices ending in “7” or “9” (like $997 instead of $1,000). It might look like a small difference, but psychologically it feels like a bargain because our brains process the leftmost number first. That $997 is automatically read as “nine hundred and something,” not “a thousand.” Coaches often use this to make programs feel more accessible while still charging what they’re worth.
Finally, scarcity plays a huge role. When you limit the number of spots in your program or set a clear deadline, you create urgency. Clients know they need to act now or miss out, which pushes them to make a decision instead of sitting on the fence. This isn’t about manipulation—it’s about helping people commit to the transformation they’re already considering. When you combine anchoring, charm pricing, and scarcity with a solid value-based offer, your pricing becomes not just a number but a strategy that drives sales and positions you as a premium coach.
Payment plans & refunds
Payment plans help you make your payment packages way more affordable. Coaching allows you to be very flexible with your clients. You can have a 12-session program that runs over 3 months, so that gives you the opportunity to break down the price into 4 payment installments. (1 deposit and 3 payments every 4 weeks).
The advantage of coaching is that the timing can be flexible, so it’s very easy to extend the time of the program for people who require a smaller price tag. This is preferable to group coaching for most because clients get better results when they get 1:1 undivided attention—it’s easy to see. Humans need to feel connected to truly feel accountable and supported.
So you could extend a $3,997 coaching program from weekly sessions to once a fortnight, which will extend the payment plan to 8 installments of $499

Should You List Your Coaching Prices on the Website?
When to show prices.
You should only show prices when your price is your competitive advantage. If you know you’re more expensive than your competitors or offer a similar price, it’s not going to serve you to show your prices on your website.
In general however any small offer that carries a price on your website will steal from you because people will buy the smaller item for the smaller price instead of the big transformational package. (this is also related to price anchoring and should be avoided).
When to hide prices
When it comes to coaching it is practically impossible to explain the full value of your coaching package and all the nuances of the transformational journey, especially with high ticket coaching. This is why if you show the price before your prospects will not understand why you’re charging so much and you will lose potential clients.
Research shows that the most effective CTAs are clear, action-oriented, and written in the first person (“Start my free trial” instead of “Start your free trial”). Buttons that highlight urgency or scarcity (“Book today,” “Save my spot”) consistently increase conversions, and design matters—contrasting colors and prominent placement above the fold outperform subtle or hidden CTAs. A/B testing confirms that small wording tweaks can deliver big lifts in click-through rates, especially when the offer is specific and value-driven.
Applying this to your coaching website:
On your homepage and key landing pages, your CTAs should focus on action plus benefit. Instead of a generic “Contact me,” use buttons like “Book my free discovery call” or “Start my coaching journey today.” This phrasing makes it clear what the next step is, while also aligning with the transformation your clients are seeking. Using first-person language creates an instant connection and helps visitors imagine themselves taking the step.
Next, think about urgency and scarcity. If you only take a limited number of clients per month, say so on your CTA button or right below it. Phrases like “Save my spot (3 left)” or “Apply before doors close” add momentum and push fence-sitters to act. This isn’t about pressure—it’s about giving people a reason to commit now rather than postponing a decision they already feel drawn to.
Finally, pay close attention to design and placement. Your CTA’s should stand out visually with a bold, contrasting color, and they should appear early on the page (above the fold—meaning as soon as the page loads) as well as repeated in key sections like after testimonials or near program descriptions. Testing two or three variations—different wording, colors, or urgency cues—will show you what resonates most with your audience. Over time, this kind of testing and refinement ensures your CTAs aren’t just buttons, but conversion drivers that consistently bring in new coaching clients.

A study highlighted by VerticalResponse reports that using first-person phrasing—like “I” or “my”—in your CTA can yield up to a 90% higher conversion rate compared to more traditional second-person wording (“you” or “your”) arxiv.orgunbounce.com+6verticalresponse.com+6medium.com+6. - A/B Testing & CTA Placement
Conversion case studies and expert analyses (e.g., Unbounce, Invesp, Studio1Design) show that strategic placement—such as putting a CTA prominently above the fold or including multiple touchpoints on the page—can significantly increase conversions, in some cases by over 20% studio1design.com+6unbounce.com+6abmatic.ai+6invespcro.com+1.
Signature Coaching Packages vs. Smaller Offers
The Ascension Model is a powerful way to structure your coaching offers so clients naturally grow with you. Instead of selling one-off sessions or a single program, you create a clear journey.
At the bottom, you provide free content—like a podcast, free guide, or mini training—that builds trust and gets people into your world. From there, your entry-level paid offer could be a short course, workshop, or group program. As clients see results, you guide them into higher-value programs such as long-term group coaching, private coaching packages, or even a mastermind.
The beauty of this approach is that it meets clients where they are. Someone new to coaching might only be ready for a small commitment, while others—who’ve already experienced your work—will be ready to invest at a deeper level.
By designing this pathway, you increase client lifetime value, but more importantly, you serve your clients better. Each step of the journey offers more support and transformation, so the people who start with a free resource can eventually grow into your most premium offers. It’s a way to scale sustainably while keeping your business client-centered and results-driven.
Launching Your Coaching Package (Step-by-Step)
Pre-selling and selling your first coaching offers
The first place you’re going to find people who want to buy your coaching packages is your existing network. You will start with free coaching during your coaching certification but you will want to move on to paid packages as fast as possible.
Once you have validated some results with free training you can immediately start charging a beta price. This will immediately start showing you which people are willing to work with you – which prospects are willing to pay for the transformation you offer as a coach. This is a big clue – look for which struggles and pain points are driving this behaviour – it will become the gold in your business.
Launching your coaching offer on your site and creating a sales funnel.

Coaching Package Sales Page Example (Using the Formula)
Relatable Pain Point / Analogy
You can have the best lawyer in town, the fairest custody agreement, and the smoothest paperwork process… but still find yourself lying awake at night, overwhelmed and unsure how to answer that msg from your ex and keep the momentum moving.
Core Truth
That’s because divorce isn’t just a legal process—it’s an emotional one. And unless you learn how to manage the grief, rebuild your confidence, and create a new vision for your future, the stress and anxiety won’t go away on their own.
Consequences of Ignoring It
The longer you try to “tough it out,” the more stuck and drained you’ll feel. Old wounds deepen, co-parenting becomes harder, and your sense of self can get buried under the weight of it all.
Authority & Experience

Launch your coaching package
Chances are you don’t have an email list yet because you’re just launching your first coaching package or packages. Once your sales page is live you can start by immediately planing your first launch.
A webinar launch will help you immediately grow your list and book clients for your program. Here are the steps.
1. Design your sales page (follow details above)
2. Decide what your webinar will be about (hint hint—look at your struggles list in the coaching package you designed). Create an outline of the training you intend to deliver.
3. Design the landing page where people can register for your webinar.
Use a tool like MailerLite to design a landing page that automatically captures your leads.
4. Run ads to your page. Ideally, you should run social ads on Instagram and Facebook.
5. Create an email sequence so that people are automatically reminded about your webinar.
It sounds simple—and it is. The difficult part is optimizing every part of the webinar to increase its efficacy every time. So keep going, and if you don’t have a budget for ads, don’t worry; you can start filling your webinars through your contacts, social media groups, and extended network.

FAQs about Coaching Packages
1) What is a coaching package? A coaching package is a defined bundle of sessions and support (calls, messaging, tools) designed to achieve a specific outcome in a set timeframe. Example: “12 weeks, weekly 60-min calls, Voxer support, and a step-by-step plan to land your next 3 clients.” 2) Why start with 1:1 packages as a new coach? They’re simpler to sell, deliver deeper results, and create steadier cash flow while you refine your method. Example: “I filled 4 private spots in 3 weeks just by reaching out to my network.” 3) Is 1:1 coaching more effective than group for hitting goals fast? For personal/complex goals, 1:1 typically drives faster goal attainment; groups shine for knowledge and accountability. Example: “My client stopped procrastinating in 4 weeks after we tailored a weekly action ritual together.” 4) Should I offer single sessions? Generally no—single sessions reduce commitment and outcomes; use them only as tightly scoped diagnostics that lead to a package. Example: “Clarity Audit → 45 minutes + plan, then apply fee to the 12-week program.” 5) What about group coaching—when does it make sense? Once you have demand, a list, and a proven curriculum; not ideal as your very first offer. Example: “After 15 private clients, I launched a 10-person cohort with the same milestones.” 6) What’s a hybrid model and why use it? Combine 1:1 for personalization with small-group sessions for momentum and peer learning. Example: “Private kickoff + 6 group calls + two 1:1s for roadblocks.” 7) How long should my package be? Pick the shortest timeline that reliably delivers the promised transformation (often 8–16 weeks). Example: “Eight weeks to publish your first 10 SEO blog posts.” 8) What features should I include? Only features that move the needle: calls, check-ins, worksheets, assessments, and clear accountability mechanisms. Example: “Weekly scorecard + 24-hour turnaround on content drafts.” 9) How do I set my price? Price for the result, not the minutes; start with a confident beta, then raise as demand and proof grow. Example: “Start at $1,500; increase 15% every time you hit 80% capacity for two months.” 10) Do I list prices on my website? List them only if price is your advantage; otherwise, lead with value and invite a discovery call. Example: “Package overview + ‘Apply for a Fit Call’ rather than a public price tag.” 11) Can I offer payment plans? Yes—structure flexible plans that align with your delivery timeline and cash-flow needs. Example: “$3,000 paid as $750 deposit + 3 monthly payments.” 12) What’s a good “starter” offer without undercutting my signature? Create a tightly scoped, fast-win package that naturally leads into your main program. Example: “2-week LinkedIn Profile Sprint that rolls into the 12-week Client Pipeline.” 13) Should I add a VIP Day/intensive? Yes, as a premium, time-boxed option for clients who want speed and focus. Example: “One 6-hour day to map your funnel, scripts, and 90-day content plan.” 14) What proof or guarantees can I include? Share clear milestones, case studies, and process guarantees—not outcome guarantees you can’t control. Example: “You’ll leave week 2 with a validated messaging doc and 10 ICP interviews booked.” 15) What’s my refund/cancellation policy? Define it upfront (e.g., no refunds after kickoff; reschedules require 24–48 hours’ notice). Example: “Reschedule with 24h notice; missed sessions are forfeited.” 16) How do I prevent scope creep? Specify deliverables, channels, and response times in your agreement and reiterate during onboarding. Example: “Email support Mon–Fri, 24h response; one major deliverable per week.” 17) What should my onboarding flow look like? Keep it simple: Book → Contract/Invoice → Intake → Kickoff → Weekly cadence. Example: “Client signs, pays, completes Typeform intake, then books their kickoff call.” 18) Which CTAs convert best on a coaching site? Clear, first-person, action-oriented CTAs above the fold with visible scarcity. Example: “Book my free clarity call (3 spots this month).” 19) How many packages should I sell at first? One signature offer is enough; add a starter and VIP Day once the core is proven. Example: “Signature 12-week program + optional Starter Sprint + VIP Day.” 20) How do I name my package? Use a benefit-driven name tied to the core promise, not jargon. Example: “Business Breakthrough Accelerator,” not “Gold Coaching Bundle.” 21) How do I show the transformation clearly? Map the milestones (Scope → Milestones → Features → Proof) so clients see the path. Example: “Week 1: Niche; Week 2: Offer; Week 3: Messaging; Week 4: Funnel live.” 22) What content/tools help clients progress between sessions? Provide checklists, trackers, templates, and quick-response support for accountability. Example: “Tuesday scorecard + Thursday 10-minute loom feedback.” 23) When should I scale to groups? After 10–30 private clients and repeatable results; build a waitlist first. Example: “When 6+ people ask for the same start date, open a cohort.” 24) How do I launch my package without a big audience? Leverage your network, referrals, and a focused webinar or workshop to seed demand. Example: “Host a 45-minute training, then invite attendees to apply for 5 private spots.” 25) What client profile tends to get results fastest? High readiness to change, strong early alliance, and willingness to follow a structured plan. Example: “They complete intake within 24 hours and book all sessions on day one.” 26) Does more session time always mean faster results? No—specific actions, feedback loops, and fit matter more than sheer hours. Example: “A 30-minute weekly implementation review beats a monthly 90-minute chat.” 27) How many clients can I take at once? Choose a cap that preserves quality (often 4–10 active 1:1s) and waitlist the rest. Example: “I keep 6 private clients to guarantee 24h feedback.” 28) What if a client isn’t a fit? Protect your brand with a screening call, clear criteria, and referrals when misaligned. Example: “If you need a done-for-you agency, I’ll introduce you to my partner.” 29) How should I handle testimonials and case studies ethically? Use real outcomes with permission, anonymize when needed, and avoid guaranteed claims. Example: “Sarah booked 5 discovery calls in 3 weeks after our messaging sprint (shared with consent).” 30) Should I use AI in my coaching packages? Yes, AI can help you create amazing tools to support your clients. To learn where to start watch this.
