Inbound Marketing for Coaches

Inbound Marketing for Coaches

Definition: Inbound Marketing

Inbound Marketing is a digital marketing strategy that involves creating high-quality, informative and educational content to attract your prospects. The goal of inbound marketing is to attract leads to your website, warm them up and convert them into customers.

What is the important purpose of Inbound Marketing?

Inbound marketing reduces your reliance on outreach, outbound ads and having to go out to get customers. Instead of hunting like a cat chasing a mouse, you create something your audience is looking for like flowers create nectar for bees.

Potential customers come to you organically, usually to your website (sometimes YouTube). The biggest advantage of inbound marketing is that it saves you advertising spend and it saves time in the long run because it has a cumulative effect. The more pieces of content you have out there, the more leads you will attract – this cimpunds over time giving you great results.

Creating high-quality content to attract leads also has the delicious side-effect of keeping your clients close and building their trust. You have 70% more chance of selling to an existing customer, so it’s worth keeping them in your orbit through high quality content.

Inbound marketing or rather high quality content also helps you grow your authority both as a personal brand or company.

Does Inbound Marketing still work for coaches?

Inbound Marketing still works although it has evolved over the last 10+ years since the term was coined by Brian Halligan, co-founder and ex CEO of HubSpot….

In 2025 it would be more apt to speak of discoverability in a wider sense.

Discoverability

In the last 24 months we have seen LLMs like ChatGPT grow their audience at unprecedented speed. We have also seen platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook change their algorith after TikTok proved that you can have a highly profitable business model when you show people more of what they already like/watch (a lot like Youtube).

The opportunities for discoverability lie in many spaces in 2025, the question is however, how does we leverage all of this for our coaching business without burning out?

Short-term and Long-term Strategy

By having complementary short-term and long-term marketing strategies, you can achieve a compounding effect which will provide your business with a stable source of leads. The timing that it takes to provide this varies from business to business however the way of achieving it is pretty much standard.

Short-term and Long-term Strategy for Inbound Marketing

Short-term Strategy

The most effective short-term inbound marketing strategies for coaches are 2:

1. Webinar strategies

Webinar strategies are exactly what it sounds like. It refers to the process of getting people onto a webinar and selling to them. This is a great way to grow your coaching business because you can sell anything on a webinar. Start off with easy offers like discounted 2 hour sessions then move on to fully fledged 6 to 12 week programs when more comfortable. The strategy can also help you fill your group programs later. It won’t feel like such a stretch if you’re already used to it.

2. Google Ads

Google Ads are great because they are a sure way of getting the right traffic to your site. A word of warning though. If you have not tested your landing pages for conversion it can take some time. What you need to do is work with ‘BOFU’ or bottom of the funnel keywords. Meaning keywords that people search in Google to buy services similar to yours. For example: ‘Career coach’, ‘LinkedIn Profile Coach’ etc…

Over time, once your organic inbound strategy is working, you will have many pages on your blog that convert into clients. This is the right time to scale your business using ads. Run your ads to more keywords using the pages that convert for that keyword topic/group.

Long-Term Strategy

Your long-term strategy is the inbound marketing strategy for coaches we discussed above. It consists of creating two or three high-quality content pieces a week and repurposing them on various platforms. You main piece of content is your SEO strategy – it will be discoverable on your website (if a blog) or on YouTube (if it’s a video). This highly valuable piece of education content should be then repurposed for social. In the past I would’ve said don’t bother. But currently the social algorithms offer an opportunity for discoverability which we haven’t had since the beginning of Facebook. So go all in.

AI Tools for repurposing your Coach content

Once you’ve created a super valuable piece of content, make the most of it and reach as many people as possible with it.

You can start from video, go to transcript, email, blog post and social media posts. Or start from a blog, repurpose as social media, and create a podcast from it.

With AI, you will NOT need a Virtual Assistant. AI is your visual assistant. Here’s an article to check out if you’re looking to repurpose using AI Tools for coaches.
